Urgent Psychiatric Care

It is very unfortunate that the lack of psychiatric services has led to countless unnecessary difficulties to families and their loved ones all over the US. THANKS! (But no thanks) to COVID telemed is now a household name. It is for that reason we deeply believe that psychiatric care should be a click away from every American. Needless to say that the current model isn’t working especially in rural America where the wait for an appointment can take months.

The accessibility and ease we provide doesn’t mean that we are sacrificing  quality, NOT AT ALL every single patient is going to be seen by an American Board Certified Physician or a provider supervised by an American Board Certified Physician. We know that the path to improve psychiatric care accessibility is still very long, however, we believe that a clinic like ours, is a step in the right direction. If we were able to help by only saving one life a month, then we can be proud of the model we are suggesting and should be able to continue doing it.

Importance Of 24/7 Psychiatry Availability

Having a psychiatrist available 24/7/365 isn’t just a necessity but also a life-saving measure. Working in multiple inpatient units in the underserved area of the Midwest has given us an excellent perspective on how we could fix this.

Seeing countless admissions that could have been easily avoided by a short meeting with a psychiatrist wouldn’t only save thousands of healthcare dollars that are being wasted on admissions but also would have protected patients’ dignity from being unnecessarily admitted to a place designed to protect those who are in dire need for stabilization or to prevent them from harming self or others in times of crises.

Telemedicine's Transformative Impact

We do agree that implementing such an idea would have been impossible a few years ago due to the fact that telemedicine was in its infancy until COVID-19 boosted this concept to the point that some patients now believe it is the only way they can receive care with.

The evolution of telemedicine has resulted in life changing experiences for many patients especially those who wouldn’t have any care otherwise.

Personal Evolution Of The Walk-in Psychiatry Idea

We thought about the idea since 2014, however, implementing it back then would have cost a fortune to initiate, maintain, and market it. Many people to this day think it is quite strange to see a doctor on the phone and have that doctor prescribe meds and do all other doctor’s activities. On the other hand psychiatrists almost never touch their patients or need to do physical exams.

Their job is to observe and assess patients’ speech and behaviors to come up with a diagnosis and treatment plan based on these and any collateral info or testing available. Knowing that we can confidently say that 95% of simple to moderate complexity psychiatric cases don’t need to be seen in person.

It was a dream of ours to open an online clinic. Now we truly live our dream to be able to start this project and to hopefully advance it to serve every patient in need.

A Vision For Immediate Psychiatric Care

I think the days of needing a 2-month wait in order to see a psychiatrist should go by instinct, and since we live in the richest country in the world, we should have no excuse not being able to provide psychiatry service to those in need at the time they need it, not 2 months later.

Also, we shouldn’t have to overwhelm our ER provider with digging into the biopsychosocial aspect of every case to make a life or death decision about a patient who can be completely different from another patient a few hours later.
